Hey guys,
I bought a lot of lead today in several old cardboard boxes at a sale. About 150 lbs of wheel weight lead ingots, 20 or so lbs of witmetaal 63/37 solder and two big bags of witmetaal 2oz discs. In the bottom of a old box I found these. Theres about 15lbs of them. They say Indium CO. of America on them. Any idea what these are? Thanks a lot folks!8-)http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b158/TNtrapper/C5D39F47-EA6F-4F7A-A88E-E62C3C7753A0-4754-0000094063438812.jpghttp://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b158/TNtrapper/E3C53FC2-F7C4-4897-8E4B-71B9F7F81EF0-4754-000009406BB82BFE.jpg

I Googled Indium, Corp. They make several solders. You might contact them and describe the bars or send the pictures to see if they will identify.

You may have something that is worth more than the other stuff combined.

indium is a trace metal often found in lead alloys and in some solders.
that's bout all i really know about it though.
i didn't google it though.

Alright....after digging through the boxes I found a shipping label in the bottom. Its an Indium Corp. invoice that lists 15 lbs of SN63. So I suppose this is tin?? I guess it will be good for making Lyman #2 with wheelweights.:) I was hoping I had found me some high priced ingots! LOL

The SN63 is the same 63/37 lead/tin as the Witmetaal solder. So, nothing exotic, but a nice source of tin for alloying; one pound of that 63/37 added to fifteen pounds of COWW will give you something very close to 95/2.5/2.5, which is pretty good stuff from what I've read.

seein as how ww's don't have 5% antimony in them, you have to add something else to make lyman #2

Never used the 95-2.5-2.5 alloy. About what is the hardness of it? Ive been using Lyman #2 for my .45acp to .308. Do you think it will hold up to the rifle calibers?

I wonder about just adding 2% of this 63/37 solder to COWW lead? Say 8oz to 15 lbs of WW. This should be enough tin to get a good mold fill out.

It would probably work just fine.
You would get about 1.5/2.9/95.5 Tin/Antimony/Lead
Make it 12 Oz and you will get 2% tin.

Good deal. Im going to give it a try before I use up all my Lyman #2.8-)

That's Electrotype. Brinell on that is 12.5 air cooled, and it's a good casting alloy. (when I blend from WW, that's about what I'm going for, but usually wind up a little high......@2.6/2.6 give or take.)
