of my 45 ACP die. Is this something I can replace reasonably or need I send it back to Lyman? I have a 1 ton arbor press.

Get you some Locktite sleeve retainer. Clean the ring and the inside of the die well. Put retainer on sleeve and press it in place. Problem solved.

Can I find that Locktite sleeve retainer at my local ACE hardware store? Don't remember seeing it.

Try your auto parts store.

When the carbide ring came out of my Lyman 45 acp die , I mixed up a little 2-part epoxy- the slow curing type ( the 5 minute kind wasn't around at that time ) , cleaned the ring and inside of the die with acetone and glued it back into place. That was over 20 years ago and it hasn't come out yet. So try some epoxy...J-B Weld would probably work just fine. Just be careful not to get any on the inside of the ring that does the sizing.

"Prepare surface with NAPA/Permatext Surface Prep Activator." Is this acetone or is it actually a chemical activator for the NAPA High Strength Sleeve Retainer, what my NAPA store had and I bought. Didn't get the activator, though.

Acetone or brake cleaner either one will do fine. Just need to get the oil out.

Even 91% alcohol is an adequate defatting agent, not as good as acetone or the 111 in brake clean
but 70% alcohol is not quite adequate.

I had previously cleaned everything (I thought) with carb. cleaner. Got out the acetone this AM and cleaned it again, found more dirt to come out. It is now done and curing.

24+ hours later it lasted less than 200 rds. I'll clean it up again and get out the epoxy. I have a bid in on another one on e-Bay, we'll see what happens.

It wasn't CLEAN!, I've seen the green LocTite hold a bearing in a gear WAY! better then the snapring that was damaged removing the old bearing!, to the point of even having to get it HOT with the torch to melt the LocTite!

Probably true. I scraped it out with a small screwdriver before I used the epoxy, probably should have done the same before I used the sleeve retainer.

I have installed counterbore repair inserts in diesel engines with Loctite and the only way to remove them is machine them out. Done correctly, the only way you will remove that insert is brake it in pieces.

You guys have it. I never thought that I should scrape stuff out, but should have cause I always do with wood glue! Last nite I finished my 45ACP pickup brass. Now over 1000 rounds worth. Gotta go cast more boolits!
