I am expecting delivery of my first 1911 pistol, a Remington R1-Stainless. I have the Lee 452-228-RN-1r mold that drops at .451. I'm going to try these in my new gun. I've loaded some up with 4.6gr Bullseye and the COAL is 1.220. I did a search and read where some have had feeding problems due to the ogive of this bullet is not the standard shape and requires a deeper seating depth. Generally, I'd just like to know what folks think of this particular boolit in the 1911 and whether, in your experience, there are any pitfalls to watch for. It appears that the Lee TL boolit is more the correct shape and would give the longer COAL common for most 1911 magazines. If I were to get this mold, is it designed to be taper crimped flush at the first Tumble Lube
groove? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, including favorite load data. I have Bullseye, AA7, HP38, Unique, and Trail Boss.

.451 may work but I prefer .452 for 1911s. IMO the H&G 68 clones (200 SWC) are THE golden
load for .45 ACP. Load to 830-900 fps with your favorite powder ( I use Titegroup now) seat a real
H&G 68 clone to 1.250 to 1.260, and taper crimp as a separate operation to about .470-.471.
Lube the conventional boolit with NRA 50-50 or other known good lube.

The TC is a critical operation, about 80+% of the failures to feed properly in 1911s can be
traced to no or inadequate TC.

No familiarity with that design, not a fan of TLs in general.

I can almost guarantee success with the above directions.

My r1 slugs at .451. I didn't even attempt to shoot at that size because I knew it would lead to leading. I size to .452 w/ a 200 grain round nose design. I stay away from any design under that weight as I've had issues w/ other 1911s and lighter for caliber bullets in the past. I use W231 which is HP38 so you're good with powder selection. Only your pistol will tell you what it prefers to shoot.
