I'd like to load .44 Special rounds using 250 grain CLSWC boolits from an RCBS 44-250-K mould. I normally use the Skeeter load with Unique powder, but with powder supplies being tight right now I'd like to use some of the other powders I have sitting unused on my shelves. I have nearly a full pound of AA #5 and would like use it if it's suitable. I also have Titegroup and HP 38 available.

Any load information for AA #5 in the .44 Special would be appreciated. Thank you!

In my 4 5/8" OM Vaquero, 6.3 gr of AA#5 under the Lee 246 gr. RN duplicates the original (1907) factory load at 755 fps...which, incidently, is ballistically the same as the old .44 Russian BP load. I've shot a lot of these in both the Vaquero and my S&W M24, and found the load equally accurate in either gun.

Their loads are pretty good. I've used several of them with AA#5 in my .45 Colt. Nice powder and measures better than Unique.

For the most part AA#5 mimics Unique in the cartridges that I shoot.
