Anybody having issues seating the bullet? My rcbs die is too small internally and forces it in way beyond the crimp groove, even with the stem removed! Help?

Any recommendations for a crimp only die?

Well, if anybody's interested... A Redding crimp only die will also contact the front section of the boolits and drive it into the case. The search continues...

Try contacting 69datyona. There must be dies that will suit the boolit because Jack designed a 700 gr. boolit of basically the same style before this one and it has been delivered, loaded and shot.

I used a RCBS die set on the 560 and 600 grn Mihec and it worked fine.

Seems my seating die is way shorter than yours. I'll give the folks at RCBS a call on Monday and see what they say.

Also figured out another problem. The front section ahead of the crimp groove of mine is dropping from the mold around .504" diameter. Gonna need to size that section, as well I guess. Is this by design or did I get something wrong?

bit of a late response, but i have the same issue as well, i have to seat them deeper then the crimp grove or it will not seat properly in my s&w 500 mag.

i also had to ream/polish my lee dies to prevent a fully sized bullet from rubbing against the bullet as you describe above.

I size MP502-600 to .500 and it doesn't chamber. Is this the same issue? My JR500 has .4995 throats or close. The .500 dia. sizing die touches up to .250 of the front section or front band equivalent, which is too much. At first, I thought the mold did not close fully but unsized diameter seems ok, somewhere .502. Any ideas? At least I must try casting again. Perhaps I could size to .499 but I have to buy the sizing die first.

I didn't bother to pull the boolits, I just filed them a bit and shot. :-?

I bought the plain base version. Photo attached. I thought it would have third lube groove. :smile: Maybe makes no difference.
