I just finished testing a few loads in my 357 mag rifle.

RCBS 200 FP, .358 sized, caranarabunasstuff lube, GC
tested 11, 12, and 13 gr of 2400 of of my Win 94

no pressure signs on any of the loads.

accuracy testing not Seriously done, distance was 25 yards off a wobbly rest, Just wanted to see if they would group or not.

well all 3 loads grouped into an inch, I'll seriously get to some 50 and 100 yard testing next.

anyways, I decided to take my 13 gr load and try to catch it in some water jugs.

I lined up 9 of the heavy plastic juice jugs, and 2 1 gallon jugs at the end.

the bullet was caught in the 9th jug, and the GC was found in the 8th one.

Here is a pic of it next to an unfired one.

I'm surprised the nosed flatened out the way it did.

Any idea of the velocity?

That looks like the bullet I may need for my H&R Handi rifle in .357mag (although it can chamber .360 Dan Wesson and has a throat long enough for 357 Maximum).

That bullet didn't feed through the magazine as a loaded .357 Mag, did it?

What was the alloy? Heat treated?

it's straight WW alloy, no heat treating, yep I run all my ammo through the magazine, feeds slick too. I seat the bullet right to the crimping groove.

I'll be checking velocity soon...

Here is what it looks like loaded.

Blammer, what mold is the plain base .358? Am i just missing it, or does RCBS still catalog it. Who carries this mold? Would like to try it in my .35 whelen. Thanks

sorry about being misleading, the PB is one I ordered from National Bullet Company a long time ago. It looks EXACTLY like an RCBS 200 with a Plain base.

where to get an RCBS 200 Plain Base? I don' t know.

The Saeco #351 Plain Base appears to be very similar to the RCBS 35-200-FN. Maybe that's the boolit you have from National Bullet Co.

Hope this helps,

I do not want to hijack your thread but I see some shotgun shells in the background of your photo and a lot of different sabots. Can you expand on that?

I have been testing saboted loads for my 20ga rifled slug barrel.

I have tested over 75 different combos so far.

I have found some to be very accurate and some very poor.

My goal: find a saboted load that shoots as good as factory loads for a fraction of the cost.

So far, one of my better loads is a 460gr slug.

I am looking to purchase a custom mold for a full bore 20 ga slug in the future. The accuracy has a lot of potential, all the way out to 200 yds...

More work needs to be done....

Buckshot re-cut grooves in a shotgun mould a while back and posted pics here. I think his intentions were to make it a full bore slug. Check with him. Since those in the pics are lead slugs, why don't you post progress?

Blammer,
I'd much appreciate any loads ya have for the 20 ga... I really haven't had any luck with them. The 12 ga lyman sabot on the other hand is simply outstanding !!! I have a real good load for that if your interested.
Stay safe

It is a lead thing and in the past there have been post on making shot as well as sabots.

Thanks!

Robert
