Given the opportunity to get one size but not both (car vs. truck wheel weights) which size would you want to smelt for boolits and why?

If I have a WW less that two oz it's because it got stuck under the clip on a real piece of lead!, IIRC?, it's said that up to a third of the pre smelt weight goes out in clips and other stuff?, throwing out 30% of your weights just don't sound right to me?

I found a Semi tire shop lataely and the ww from them make the car ones look pitiful. Most of the COWW are >6oz and SOWW usually in strips of 8oz or more! Makes sorting them a WHOLE lot easier. Less zinc and steel in the semi buckets then the car ww buckets I get from the same shop.

My , how things change.
A few years ago , zinc was evil and should be avoided at all costs.
Being the resourceful kind that we are , zinc can be useful huh?

Lead Truck Wheel Weights!

There is more lead and less clips! It is that simple. My truckweights are exactly the same as my car weights, no difference in the lead alloy is apparent, they are just much bigger.

That makes them easier to sort with a lower number to handle and one clip for each 5 to 14 oz. weight, which means a lot of lead and just a bit if steel in the pot.

Go with the truck weights if the cost is the same!

I just figured it was junk. If I couldn't pour slugs with it I felt it was useless. I'm also mad at zinc for ruining a bunch of bullet alloy once.

Most of my lead stash is from big old truck weights. The last two pails that I smelted were car WW and they were a pain compared to the truck ones. You made a good decision. Now............... get all you can, while you can.

Truck weights. Better lead:junk ratio!
