Do believe it's a roll crimper, fingers push the shell in, plunger is turned and pushed in to roll the top. My two pesos

Looks like an ancient Union Hardware roll crimper - used one when I was just a yonker - any markings, idea of diameter (gauge), how long a shell can be crimped? It might be for the mild crimp used on brass scattergun cases..

It's a roll crimper, got one just like it and use it when I load for my short chambered Model 12 and Browning a5. I've used it on both plastic and paper shells and it works a charm.

ChrisK:

It matches up almost perfectly with a No. OXP "Eureka" shell closer on page 27, right, in my repro 1901 catalog from the Bridgeport Gun Implement Co. (See <www.cornellpubs> for a copy of this and a thousand or so other old gun and tool catalogs.)

"OXP. Brown-japanned [lacquer, yours looks more like black, but they used both colors], case-hardened lever, expelling pin [the plunger to the right in your photo], brass cup, producing perfect square crimp [yours looks like it is for the rounded-edge crimp that won out over the square-edged one]. 10- and 12-gauge....6.70 [per dozen!!!], 14-, 16- and 20-gauge....8.00[per doz.]"

Doug

Add: "Union Hardware" was another brand used by BGI; there seems to have been a connection with the Union Metallic Cartridge Co., who took over Remington.

That's a great resource. Looks like I'm going to be spending some time there so I'm not bugging you guys so much with my questions!
