i have a older ..[not too old]...MARLIN GBL...[not remlin]... and this is maybe the best 45-70 lever ive ever shot. it wears a 1 to 4x leopold now and this rifle shoots like a house-a-fire...after i smoothed the tight spots with fine valve grinding compound...[read sore arm]...but now cleans up like a dream and like i say...shoots lites out.:drinks:

My oldest son picked up a JM stamped guide gun last year and loves it.
The gun shop owner runs his shop from an out building and had it sitting in his inventory for 5 years!
Never put it out on the rack for sale. Has a 94 JM marked 1894 in 44 mag that is also tucked away.
Were launching 400gr boolits from Accurate mold#460-400L over 50gr of Varget in virgin Starline brass with a CCI LRP.
It is effective!

monge,

Is it blue and walnut or stainless and laminate ? Now you'll have to fire up the pot and get to castin', so you can work up some loads for the new shooter.

But I bet you already have some waiting !

How does this load shoot as far as accuracy is concerned? Any pressure signs? The highest I have ever went is a 400 with 26 gr of 2400.

There's something about these 1895 Marlins. At first I thought it was just the Guide Guns but apparently the full-length rifles are pretty awesome as well. Most shoot as well as or better than bolt guns, odd but very pleasing. I've known more than a few knowledgeable riflemen who find them to be exceptionally accurate. I hope the Remlins shoot just as well.

i bought the rcbs 500 grain flatnose mould and when im dinkin in the brush...[ think very hungry and angry ...BIG bears]... this outfit with these heavys are on my shoulder. i load em on the hot side and they are no fun to shoot but in the mix a feller never feels the "kick" anyway.

for just plain ol fun...i patch 250 grain pistol boolits and load em over 55 grains of imr 3031 and i dont ever remember ever bringing any of these home with the loads still in the cases...they are very...[ read VERY]...fun and addictive to play with.

another very fun load is my duplex load with imr 4227 in a 10% volumn and the 90% in blackpowder... so my load is 70 grains total consisting of 7 grains of the 4227 huggin the primer and the rest being 63 grains of GOEX cartridge or 2f powders... the imr runs everything really clean and yet i get the sparks and smoke that i love so much...i load a 420 grain lyman # 457643 boolit with a .060 inch walters wad overpowder and i cant seem to be able to bring any of these home either...ive shot 50 of these with no swabbing or cleaning of any kind and no hickups in the least.

for an everyday load that is in my rifle at all times is the KIETH favorite of a 350 grain boolit [greeser] ahead of 53 grains imr 3031...its a 100% load and works well at all times.

this and your rifle are a really fine rifle and like i said before...the very best all round shooting and carrying rifle in 45-70 i have ever had. i know you will enjoy yours as much as i do mine. the only thing other then the lapping of my barrel is the leather butpad i installed for the length of pull as im a 6 foot 5 inch feller with fairly long arms so finding a rifle with a length of pull that fits is impossible to find on any stock shelf.

Just got back from range all shot were taking from bench holding gun, first group at 50 yards 350gr ranchdog sized to .460,26gr of 2400 dacron filler 5 shots 1" groups next were 350gr ranch dog .460sized 48grs H4198 same groups fired 4 5shot strings. At 100yard groups opened up to 1 1/2 .over all I am very happy with the first time shooting this gun no leading and the action seams smoother already no leading some boolits were tumble lube some were lubed with carnuba red. What amazed me is how little effect the short barrel made on accuacy my xlr with a 24" barrel shoots similar at these ranges .Cant wait to shoot it at 200yards this will be true test!

Sounds good. Where did you get the gun? I've been to Beecroft's, Hawk's Corners and McGregors pretty regularly, and haven't seen one. (I'm in Queensbury.)
