Sorry if this has been asked before or is in the wrong forum.

I have one pot that I use that I bought new for pouring ingots. I have just aquired another that I thought I would put into action but it's not new and covered with rust. Question is, do I need to clean it out first or just go ahead and use it?

Thanks in advance for the help.

+1 on what root said. Any rust you don't knock loose will float out when the lead melts in it, to be skimmed off when you flux. Just be sure to scrape the sides and bottom of the pot while fluxing.

FWIW, rust is good on ingot molds, lead don't stick...
