What is the smallest WW's you'll let go into the melting pot?

I draw the line at .25, as the lead is less than the metal clip holding it on!

Now the 2 oz'rs are the nice ones!

If a clip has got just a dust of lead on it, in she goes! 2 ouncers are nice, but the 10 & 12 ouncers kick butt!

The single in the middle is juicy ol 4 ouncer, for comparison. The rest are 6,8,10, and 12 ozs.

+1 on that . . .even the dross skimmed off the casting pot goes back in. I figure every little bit helps! :)

Years ago a friend got me some wheel weights from a truck line tire shop. Now those were BIG wheel weights.... they looked like hot dogs!

Grinch is right.

I got an allocation of WW at the weekend and I now target a depot that services trucks. Some of the truck weights are 1/2 pound!!!! You could see off a would-be intruder with one.

I cant imagine wasting the time going thru a bucket or two of WW trying to pick out weights under a certain ammount. Heck I just dump it all in the pot. If its lead it will melt. Zinc or steel will float to the top, everything else is flux.

I hand sort all the weights. Tape-ons (pure lead) are smelted separately. Steel and zinc weights don't go in the pot, unless I miss them, but keeping the temp well below 700 F insures that the steel and zinc will safely float without melting. Anybody seen the new 1/4 oz. weights that have no lead? All they amount to is a bare steel clip that weighs 1/4 oz. Talk about cheapskates!

Yep. Had 50 or so (guess) in my last bucket. I've got a couple more buckets that need some attention (if I EVER get done putting in that danged invisible fence contraption - that's way too much like work...) and we'll see how many are in there.

ANeat has the right idea. It's all about easy.

I cook them all if they came in the pail aren't zinc they hit the cooker and get melted. I see your point of the small ones but why sort them you have the fire going anyway and they melt so all you have is one more clip to throw out instead of clip with tiny gob of lead to throw out.
My theory on it.
