I screwed up and my mold makes 190 gr boolits. They chamber and eject dummy rounds from my Marlin. I can find no powder starts so I am being careful. Not looking for max anything but there is just nothing out there.
I tried loading Quick Load with no luck. One of our friends here sent a disk but I can't make it work.
I need help.

Don't know what you have for a rifle or what powder you have on hand, but for
starters you could try 8gr of Unique, 12gr of 2400, 20gr of 4198, 24gr of 3031,
or 14gr of H110. See if you can find a copy of Lyman's old cast bullet manual, circa
1950's.

I'd start @ 23 gr H4895 or 8 unique. My 311's are 180+ gr. GC, 185+ PB.

+1 what the others recommended. I load the 311041 after gas checked, lubed, is close to 190gr; I load with 8.2gr (Russki) Salut (Russian surplus Unique). 3031 works well also.

For mild loads you could try trail boss. They have a formula to calculate starting loads for almost any cartridge on their website.

Jim, if I remember right this rifle and new mold is for the Grandson?

A mild good shooting load is to start at 18.0 gr Sr 4759. Works so well it's about all I use in my 30-30 any more. Standard primer & only enough crimp to avoid set back in the mag.

DO NOT confuse 4759 with 4756 . . . HUGE difference.

Yes. I have a lot of 4759. One of my favorite powders.

the 4759 will work fine.
if you have any old 4831 kicking around, a case full [bout 34 grs] will give you right bout 1800 fps.
it's easy on the shoulder, accurate, burns clean, and is pretty quiet.

I like Varget in my .30-30..... I have not tried it behind anything that heavy, but if you back off a few grains from the starting loads for a 170gr, you should be in the ballpark. Increase until it burns clean or you get the velocity you want.

Hodgdon's website says this for a 170:

170 GR. SIE FP Hodgdon Varget .308" 2.550" 29.5gr 1976 30,200 CUP 33.0gr 2168 36,500 CUP

I'd go with 24gr to start and work toward 30gr in 1gr increments while shooting across the chrono and looking for unburnt kernels.

I download 31141 data 5% for my RCBS 180fn that lubed weighs about 195 gr.

Try this article by Junior Doughty about his Heart Attack Rifle with 195grain projectiles and Varget (2208) in the Win 1894:

Thank you so much.
I have not shot cast in a rifle for too many years and this is great info. You know I am a confirmed revolver guy and I hope to have some fun with the Marlin.

I have 2/ea 336 Marlins that both love 34g of old H-4831 and the RCBS 30-150FN @.309. Velocity is 1753 fps and accuracy is about 2 inches at 100 yds.
