Greetings Lever Flippers
Just sent a Glenfield 30-30 to JES Reboring to be rebored and rifled to .412 5 groove and chambered in 405 JES. That is nothing more than a 444 tapered down to a .412 boolit. Was thinking of making another .414 Supermag and shooting them side by side to test loads but decided to go another caliber / combination route.
Jes told me the .412/444 should give about 300 + fps over my 414 SM Glenfield so I recon I should expect about 2250 fps with the RD 255 gc. That would get it to 375 Win velocities with a heavier 35 grain fatter boolit. Should handle any gopher or tree rat I ever see. And so I await.

Does sound like a .375 upsized, should be interesting.

Greetings TX
That was my thinking. With my 414 Supermag chambering I was hoping to come close to the 375 Winchester as I have one of those and several other caliber 38 rifles. With the larger diameter 41 caliber brass it comes right in there using a good dose of 1680 and the .412 255 gr Ranch Dog boolit seated out to the first grease groove. It Crono'ed in the 1950's area.
If the 405 Jes does 300 fps more than the 414 SM load it should do all my little 152 pounds needs to get wapped with.
Nice thing for me is I have been a caliber .41 shooter a long time and already have a good selection of caliber 41 molds up to 290 grainers. The 40-70 and the 405 had / have a good reputation as thumpers so this 41 Jess should do the same. There are other .41/444 combinations out there that are really the same as the 405 JES just slightly different.
Really it is no better than the 444 and maybe a few hairs less but I am hooked on caliber 41.

Just remember the 336 action is not quite as strong as the action for the 1895 / .444 or .45-70. At least that's what I've been told by several gunsmiths when I thought of doing a wildcat. So I just settled on an Ackley Improved .30-30.

In my view/experiance Marlin 336= Marlin 1895, no difference.

Howdy That is pretty much what JES told me when I did the first .412 in 414 SM. If I understood correctly he tried to demolish one with some very high pressure rounds no sane man would use in the .412 barrel.
I have no need to get into ++P maxed out loads... That is why I have the 45-70's. And if that is not enough gun I will pull out the double Fox with .685 RB at 1600 fps.
But I cannot imagine any large critter this side of "Old muddy" that would need more than one well placed caliber .412 255-280 grainer at 2000= fps. Fellers used alot less 150 years ago to pound big black bears into the dirt. Last I looked there are no bears roaming my river bottoms. Biggest thing is a couple cougars that make their circle but yet do not stay around long enough to get any dogs on them. That would sure be a fine target to start with though.
