I bought an old lee pro IV that was missing it's valve stem a couple of years ago. been ladling out of it. decided to go on and fix it and try bottom pour.
any suggestion of anything else I should do while i have it empty?

clean all the gunk out.
green scrubby,wire wheel,whatever don't breathe the dust.
then boil a little water in it when done and wipe it dry.

When you get the new stem you may want to get some valve lapping compound and lap the stem to the spout.

take the bottom plate/stand off and see if you can drill it out.

Remember that the reason most folks did this conversion is because of the leaking problem with these pots, they weren't called Lee-kamatic for no reason.

I am going to hold off on the work on the pot for a little while. i ladle out of it anyway. might just buy the pot insert and do the quick easy fix on that.
