What are the differences between the .45 acp and the Glock .45 gap? I have seen these mentioned recently and was wondering how big a difference there is?

Here's a few differences. The 45 GAP is a shorter case, It uses small pistol primers, It works at higher pressures, and in factory loadings is slightly more powerful than the 45 ACP. Also due to it's short case it tends to be better suited for bullets under 230 gr, from what I have heard.

The GAP was a good idea, a shorter case for a smaller pistol grip. I thought they operated at identical pressures, the ballistics were intended to be identical. I knew of a guy who accidently got some GAP ammo in his ACP pistol. I called the ammo manufacturer who said it would have functioned, although the GAP wouldn't headspace in the ACP chamber the extractor would hold the cartridge in place to allow the firing pin to detonate the primer. I tested it and sure enough, it functioned.

Brass/ammo is always harder to come by... ie more expensive.
