Broke my extractor today. Long story. Any ideas on how to find a new one? Any contacts? Only the claw missing from where is wraps around the front of the bolt.

Jeff you are lucky to have one to measure up because the only way you are going to get one is to make it yourself or have someone make it for you. I have one in the works now. lot of file work ahead as i have no machine tools available.
Good luck

I have dropped some hooks in the water in Sweden.
I have a couple of dealers i'll contact too.

I might end up talking to a mate with a mashine shop so he can make up a batch.

Jeff
If the bolt is from a 71 or 71/84 Mauser...I bought an extractor from Numrich

Jeff,

I bought my No 26 without an extractor, so I had to make one. I used a piece of band saw blade (hack saw blade should work too) to fit the width of the groove in the action and silver soldered on the lug. It took some filing and a couple of tries to get it to pull the case out yet still be able to pull it off the bolt.

After mdevlin posted pistures of his extractor; I will try to file/grind one from a leaf spring if I ever get theurge to make another one.

Maybe just make a new claw and solder it on?

Chicken Theif, I would be interrested in one for my .25-20 if your deal works out.

Chicken Thief we need to get a group buy for these, I could use two my self. One thing i will tell you is they are not all going to be interchangeable. I have one for my two model 25s and it will not fit into the second bolt assembly. and the one from my 35 wont fit either 25. They are close but i beleive that each one was hand fitted at the original time of manufacture,
If you have a machinist frend he could make up some that are about 90% and leave the final fit to the individual bolt/rifle.
Right now i count 4 in our little Husky club, if we get a few more maybe we could get our own section.

For starters i'll get what i can from original spares in Sweden!
In a forthnight i'll get a model 25 and in the forseable fututre a model 35 too.
Thus i'll have an exact measure of them all.
Updates as loot unveils itself :-|

The hand fitting makes sense, these little rifles were made when quality was important, even on lower priced items.

I think the same extractor would work for both the No 25 and 26, since they are the .32-20 and .25-20 respectively. The .30-30 and 45-70 are probably different, although the same blank may work for all calibers.

Jeff,

Sorry to hear that. I broke an extractor on a 9mm Largo Destroyer Carbine about 10 years ago and I ended up making one by hand from a piece of barstock with files and a lot of fitting. Sounds like you'll have better luck than I did in finding a replacement part.

And also...a 30-30 is not a 300 Win Mag! ;)

It wasn't a particularly hot load Bruce; 1950fps for a 177gr boolit on a load of W748. I think the cause was a once fire range pick up case that even after FL sizing was a bit snug. Possibly I had not completely removed all the sizing lube also.

Was it from the cache I sent you?

Nope. A locally sourced PPU case. Yours was all quality US brass.

So far my leads has been dry:cry:
But that just mean that i'll have to work on fabrication.

OK, whew, I didn't want to be the one responsible for taking your Husky out of commission. Its all on you ;)
