I have seen table/counter/bar coatings that look almost like glass and as thick at several restaurants, bars, and grills. I have been trying to find where to procure some, guess I do not even know the correct name for that coating. Some kinda "poly/epoxy" coating?

Can anyone tell me the exact name/or where to purchase some?

Thanks friends,

Bob

Look for pour on liquid acrylic or epoxy, if the look I am thinking of is what you are looking
for.

scroll down to no blush epoxy, cheaper and sounds pretty good. Never done this,
just read about it.

Bob, years ago I made the oak headboard for our bed and poured an acrylic(?) material on the top of it that I got from a place that served the restaurant/bar trade. I remember having to "cure" it by using a propane torch not for the heat but because it generated CO2 and that would react with the material. Bubbles would come to the surface. When the bubbles stopped the stuff was pretty well cured. We let it sit for a day or two to harden up.

I remember because we were told it would cure if you breathed out on it, but the area we covered would have made me dizzy, like blowing up a BIG air mattress, so I got out the Bernzamatic.

Good luck with your search, I don't remember the name.

I used polyeurathane- spelling may be bad- a long time ago. I think epoxies and acrylics are used nowadays.

The way I used it was to get the table real good and level. Table top prep is key. pop open the can and carefully pour the contents out on the table. Gravity is your friend and enemy. OH yeh, cover floor with lots of newsprint, calm still air is good so that stuff isn't stirred up and settling on it, the cleaner the environment the better. It will run over the edge, when it has settled and quit running over you can clean the edges, carefully, with whatever cleaner is recommended on the can.

Look for a product named Crystal Coat. Lowes or Home Depot. Paint Dept.

Lots of brands out there Bob but for furniture I make that will be used like tables, night stands etc I have a piece of glass cut to lay on the top. Cleans well, won't slip (if it's a real small piece a tiny piece of clear two sided tape under it) and can be removed easily. Works for me.

I used this http://www.amazon.com/Environmental-Technology-32-Ounce-Pour-On-Finish/dp/B000BZYYQ0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1357617864&sr=8-2&keywords=bar+top+epoxy on a project many years ago that turned out beautiful.

You will want to seal the wood with a compatible sealer first otherwise you will get some air bubbles from the wood in your finish.

Thanks all,

I think the mirror coat is closest to what I was looking for.
