A fella locally i know has some Mil. 308 brass unprocessed he want to trade for 45 brass.
I have quite a bit polished, sized and primed 45 brass ready to drop the bullet in.
What would a fair trade ratio be?

Duke

1 for 1.

I'd go 4:1 for the labor and cost of primers. It all depends on how bad he wants ready made brass. But thats my estimate, YMMV....;-)

Oops Duke. I glance over the primed part. I agree with P. K.

Just for your information. Due to the political scene and hording, it is very hard to get 45ACP brass at this time. I have about three different sources of once fired pistol brass and all of them are out of 45ACP. Make sure you keep enough back for your own use until the hording slows down. I am lucky that I have over 2000 on hand for my practice and match shooting.

6 308 for 1 45acp is what I'd trade or nothing.

unprocessed 308 is a MAJOR pain to mess with if not set up properly with GOOD equipment to make the job easy.

OUCH! I don't think he'll go 6-1. Maybe 1-1?

Speaking as somebody that is in the middle of prepping quite a few 45s on single stage presses, remember the time you have involved. Primers also cost money. Military 308 can be had a dime a dozen. Several years ago I had a 50 cal can given to me.

I'm with those at 4:1.

3-1 bare minimum. Yours is primed and ready to load. As Blammer said unprocessed 308 is a pain if not set up properly.

It wasn't 308 - but I got some 30-06 military that (over 1/3 of it) was crimped so tight the decapping pin pierced the whole primer and then what do you do? I scrapped, it but consider I lost 1/3 of these new brass that was broken down for the "AP" bullets. These were corrosive primer (in the interest of full disclosure). I don't think that harmed the cases as long as they weren't fired. I'll go for 3-1 minimum on the trade.

Do you want some 45 brass?

Once we both add in shipping, I'm not sure it would be worth it... whereabouts are you located?

Does that change on a daily basis? I get down there about once a week... I'm pretty sure it will be twice this week.

How much were you looking for? I just looked at my stash, and I believe that I am down to about 400 pieces of unprocessed once fired.

If we make a deal, I''ll go ahead and throw it in the tumbler.

Is it military? If so we might just have a deal.

Yes, military.

But

At 4:1, the 308 is more useful to me.

I would be interested in lead, or most anything related to shooting or casting.

That would be doable for me, my only hesitation is getting flamed:target_smiley:for "ripping you off".

Thing everybody should know is, I have used quite a bit... I have a bunch that I have reformed to 243Win... Not the most enviable task, but it makes good brass.[smilie=1:

Let me know.

OUCH! I don't think he'll go 6-1. Maybe 1-1?

I'd figure cost of current unprocessed .308 brass to cost of current processed .45 ACP brass.
Then I'd add the cost of a large pistol primer per case to be traded to get a fair value.

Did he really say this? What happened between then and making a trade? just asking

That's what I wrote...

As far as a trade, it went to PMs.

If you have questions, ask, but they may not be answered.
