Today at the range I chronographed 7.5 gr of SR7625 and 5.2 gr of Bullseye with 429667 WW alloy, Alox, .430" through a 3" Charter Arms, a 4 3/4" Colt SAA a 7 1/2" Colt SAA and a 19" Uberti '73 Carbine. Heres the results:

7.5 gr SR 7625
3" 795 fps, 4 3/4" 827 fps, 7 1/2" 858 fps and 19" 1,104 fps

5.2 gr Bullseye
3" 757 fps, 4 3/4" 782 fps, 7 1/2" 812 fps, 19" 1,130 fps

Interesting. How Many shots for each barrel length and load?

I fired 5 shots from each firearm with each load. I just add up the five velocities and divide by 5 for an average. Not standard deviation but if a load shows eratic velocities I abandon it, these are pretty good loads for me in my .44 Specials. I was glad to finish the 5 from that Bulldog.

Why abandon the odd velocity? It could very well be telling you something about the loads consistency, one of the main reasons for using the chronograph.

I'm not abandoning the odd velocity, if I'm getting irratic velocities I abandon the load. Either change the charge or use a different powder which shows consistency. These loads have been working for me for a long time. The 5.2 gr of Bullseye is my favorite.

Ah . . . I read it wrong, sorry. I re-read it and see the error of my ways.
