I think I want to make a plinking [trigger time] load for my H&R 35 rem. I would like to use my Lee 158gr gas check SWC pistol mold for this. Anyone ever use this bullet in a rifle?? Would it work with unique?? ANY ideas or guggestions will be appreciated!!!!
Thanks
Jeff

Also would this be bullet usefull for anything other than steel plates and paper?? As in a CLOSE range deer load or pest control??

Jeffrey -

Howdy, once again.

IMR4759 has ben just stupid accurate in my M-336 XLR .35Rem.

It has worked well under Dead Center Duplex swaged .35 calibre 195gr SPBTs, and especially under ( "J"-word ) Hornady 140FTX..... and suprlus Rem 150PSPs.

My point:
Given the .35 calibre bullet weight span I've tried I4759 with; I se no reason why it would/should not also work just fine for lead 158gr SWCs.

I have used the non GC 158 RFN in my 35 . They did well enough not match grade accuracy but good enough for just off hand practice at 50 yds. Im sure they would kill a deer but there are many better options .

Lyman shows 150 PB Boolit with Unique

9.5 1370 fps

12.5 1665 fps

I'll bet you get a little better accuracy with a GC boolit.

Suggest the "old time" suggestion of working up a load. Depending on the alloy used nique will work very well for what you want. Start at 7 gr and work up in 1/2 gr increments untill accuracy goes south. My 358156 does very well at 1600 fps out of my 35 Rem. It will like game/pests nicely upwards of deer and 200 lb or so pigs. If you work up a load with 4759 oe something sililar as mentioned you should get very good accuracy upwards of 1800+ fps which makes it a very effective game/pest load.....again, alloy/lube and a couple other things dependent.

I have been using 158 gr JHP pistol bullets in my 35 Marlin for deer for years. It works great, and to me, the most important advantage is the lower cost. Pistol bullets are cheaper than rifle bullets, and cast would be even cheaper. Go for it without fear. Wallacem in Ga

My cousins Marlin 336 shot the Lee 158 SWC GC so much better than anything else we tried he used it for hog hunting. I don't remember the load but it was 1550 at the muzzle and worked well on the 225lb boar he shot.
