Good morning
Decided to not go out and enjoy the cold one diget temperatures today. Fill out my monthly reports and box up more stuff for storage.
But in the process I was thinking how hefty that 1873 heavy barrel rifle is. So I thought why not weigh it compared to another 44-40.

So pictured are the 1873 2nd model heavy barrel... 10 lbs . And a 1892 44-40 carbine #41xx07 from 1907 that weighs in at 5 pounds 2 ounces. Had my wife pick up both and give her evaluation... No way did she want that chunky 1873 anywhere near.
I have shot both with about the same 215 grain boolit load. The light carbine lets you know you just launched a 215 grainer but nothing serious. The heavy 1873 goes bang and recoil is perceived with same boolit but as mild as you can imagine. Be a great hot day T-shirt rifle.
No real ground shaking info here.. just an overactive mind that wants to find better things to do than pack away shooting equipment.
