Did anyone else go out and shoot a few rounds on this New Year’s Day.
I shot 20 rounds offhand at a 200 yard ASSRA 25 ring target with my Ruger no.1 30-30 at our 100 yard range.
It was a balmy 14 degrees with 5 mph winds from my 6.

Nope. I did cast 1300 200 SWC for 45 ACP. Getting ready now to do a run of 460350 RE style bullets from a 3 cav NOE. Need to see how well the HP does cast soft. Planning to use 40/60 lead pipe/ range scrap. Should be around 10 to 11 BHn. Will be interesting to see how fast I can shoot them accurately.

Winter is casting time for me. I will wait for a 35 to 40 degree day with sun and little wind to go shoot.

Was tempted but it was so cold today about 18! I'm waiting for my new 155 gr .30 mold to come in for my 300 blk. Hopefully tomorrow and I'll cast up a bunch so Thursday might be the day-supposed to warm up some by then.

Yeah and it was great! Sunny, no wind and about 34*. Put 100 + rounds thru my Taurus 709 slim, 70 thru my .41 Mag Tracker and about 60 thru my Taurus PT140 Milpro. (Yes I like my Tauri) Also about 15 each thru my H&A underhammers (.45 and .54) First time shooting both rifles. Both show lots of promise with load development. Have to finish stock and brown the barrel on the .54 but I just had to try it out "in the white". Mostly just a play day as I had 5 pumpkins that I needed to "recycle".
Good shooting-Bruce H

I love to go shooting on New Years Day, starts the year out right!
Have to admit, though, that I didn't go this year. Cccccccccold here in Minnesota. I do shoot outdoors all winter, but usually don't drag a bunch of stuff out until it's about 20deg or so.

fa38, is you Ruger No 1 a Lipseys? If it is how do you like it?

Not a Lipseys. I think it started out as a 243 that I shot out at prairie dogs and had re-barreled in the late 80’s with a Matco barrel, 12 inch twist, tight neck.

Well after almost total failure with Bullets and Boolits on Saturday out of the 219 Donaldson, and rain all day Monday, I had to see some success.

So looking at 10B101 Data I grabbed the Remington Roller out of the safe and started looking for the Hornady brass.

I wanted to use this brass for two reasons. First and foremost when I bought it as once fired brass I did not know know it must of been in some pressure testing "gun" as it had a round dimple on the side. Two it was like new and three I wanted to see if the slightly shorter brass would be an issue.

Sized it and the dimple formed back pretty well.

Stoked it with 16.2 - 18.2 of 10B101 (Lot # 91A-009) and the RCBS 325 RNFP boolit (345 grains in my alloy)

Well it was drizzling but was not going to stop me.

5 deer on the range when I walked back there and me with untested gun, sight setting and load.
Stuck the target up a 50 yards and proceeded to shoot
Shot them all in groups of 5 and each load was more precise than the previous up to the 18.2 and there were NO pressure signs.
Any of the 4 groups would have been minute of deer heart at the range they were when I saw them.

groups were good enough that I walked back and decided it is time to try the Ranch Dog 460-350 (378 in my alloy) with the 18.2 loading.

5 shots off a rest, aimed thru tang rear, Lyman 17 front with drizzle and darkness approaching and 4 outa 5 in 1.5" X 3/4" and the 5thth pulled an inch and a half away.

Dang that woulda be a great group minus the boo boo on my part.

The Ranch Dog Molds I have used much are sure boolits that like to land in the same place.

Probably stroking along about 1200 fps which with 378 grains and that big ol mplat oughta work on anything I might shoot with it.

fa38, That is nice! I have been thinking of having a No 1 re-barreled to 30-30 Win.
