Having had enough of paying high $$$ for round balls to feed my Brown Bess, I decided to buy a mold. As most of my Pb is of the wheel weight and recovered variety, that is what I'd like to use for casting. Since there is no rifling to engage, I can't see why it would make any difference. Anyone care to offer an opinion on this?

Wheel weight lead makes great balls for shootin rondy targets not so good for killin deer with.I use them in a smoothbore and I use them in my 54 GPR, like I said they shoot fine the patch is what touches your barrel, so I see no problem.

Well, I have used WW round balls for nearly 40 years, and they seem to kill just fine. Better penetration on elk sized stuff, and never had a deer or antelope complain. They do just fine for target work, too.
