I thought that I would open up this thread for those of us thinking about creating a 'po' boy's 300 Blackout by launching the Lee (Midway) TL-309-230-5R in carbines (and rifles) chambered in 7.62x39.

All useful load data - and results - are welcome.

I look forward to this

I don't have a x39, but I do want to try these in my 30-30, also the NOE311247.

I hope a lot of info carries over to the other cartridge.

I am toying with a 30 Herrett Contender load for both the Lee and NOE style too. Anybody try these yet?

Wow! I thought "309-230" was a typo, so I had to see for myself. How long has this design been out?

sometime earlier this year, I've had one for several months for use in my 300 BO upper.

Unless you're loading for a .308 bored rifle it might be hard to successfully load for 7.62x39 without mold modification or paper patching. Seems like a good candidate for the latter.

I shoot it in my Tender barrel which was manufactured by MGM and has a .311" bore. I just TL it and load over 8.8 AA#9 for a chrono'd vel of 980fps. It is capable of <1/2" @50 yds out of my 14" pistol with a 9.5" twist. The key for me in the accuracy department was to use large pistol primers.

The mold has been out since about mid 2012. I got mine from Midway before they had the picture in the advertisement for it. The discription stated it had a wide meplat! Midway was called and they adjusted things to my satisfaction and they changed the advertisement. My review did disappear though.
My mold drops at .310" but the grooves in my SKS measure just over .313" so no hope there.
I have shot it in my 1 in 8 twist 300 Whisper and my old Savage 110DL in 30-06 with a 1 in 10 twist. Subsonic even in the Whisper is marginal but get it up to around 1,800 fps in the 30-06 and it is ok at 100 yards. Groups run around 2".

I'm thinking something like this might work better for an SKS.

Sized down to .314 on left and as cast on right. I'd like to try it but I don't have a Chronograph and there's no load data for this boolit and 7.62x39.
