Hi,

Can I convert/form .32 Special brass from 30-30? I would think that running it throuh a 32 Special sizing die would do the trick. Does it need to be fireformed instead?

Thanks,
John

Simple conversion. Run it through the sizer and press in the bullet. Just make sure you mark them somehow so you don't get them confused.

John,
I just run it through the 32 spl die. I also line out the 30-30 with a vibro engraver so it won't get confused with 30-30 ammo. It's a pain to try and chamber a 32 round in a 30-30 in a hurry when Bambi is heading over the hill. Mark

you can neck 375win, brass down to it also, the necks need to be turned afterwards as the 375 has a thicker wall, I shoot several rounds that use the 30-30 as a parent case and have used it, more work and not sure if its worth the trouble but if some yo-yo leaves it at the range I will pick it up.

Thanks guys...

I did order 200 .32 Special brass just so I had it, but I will probably form 100 or so 30-30 to use in the .32 as 30-30 brass is relatively easy to come across.

The week or two before deer season its like gravel at the range.

Is there any reason, Ed, that you can't save it for us? Does the range get a fee for the gravel? ... felix

John;

What are you using for boolits? I just picked up a great old Marlin RC 32Spl that is just begging to be shot with some real boolits, but I have neither dies or a mold for it. Looks like mold selection is rather limited for this cal.
I believe Ranchdog is conducting a survey to see what bore and groove sizes are in the old Marlins in 32Spl. The ones he had posted seem to run a good bit smaller than .321

These are the moulds I have for 32 SPL. If you look around you can find the moulds with-out too much spending too much. Of course I HP my own moulds. Mark

Denver,

I purchased the 32-170 RCBS and a set of RCBS "Cowboy" dies. I haven't cast or loaded any yet as I was on vacation last week.

John, that combination is just about perfect, most especially for a lever gun. ... felix

Just slugged the barrel of my RC 32 spl. A slug driven in from the muzzle measures .3165. One from the chamber end driven up under the rear sight dovetail and then pushed back out measures .3175. The one from the muzzle
nearly fell through the bore after passing the front sight dovetail and the front barrel band cross groove for the screw. This is a '53 vintage rifle and has 4 grooves. My '52 vintage RC 35 Rem has a 7 groove barrel and slugs @ .360. It had the same problem with speed bumps at the front dovetail and cross slot. It shot horrible groups with cast until I shortened the barrel by cutting it behind the front dovetail, eliminating both it and the cross slot. I also re-crowned it with an 11* crown. It shoots great now. Can't wait to get the new 360-220 mold.[smilie=1:

I picked this up from MidSouth Shooters Supply for my 32 WS and it shoots pretty good so far, my bore slugged at .318 and I size them in a .321 die.

I wasn't able to seat the 32-170 RCBS boolits to the crimp groove! They engraved the rifling too heavily when chambering. I have seated them farther into the case and they chamber fine but look a little "stubby". The Marlin .32 Special rifle is not micro groove.

Accuracy with the buckhorn sight was about 2" at 50 yds with 9.5gr Unique.

Any other suggestions on a different boolit that might fit better? As I just acquired this rifle, I haven't slugged the bore yet.

Thanks,
John

Just shot some bear creek .323 out of my 94 winchester circa 1907. 3 shots into About 2 inches at 100 yards with 9.5 grains of nitro 100. Crimped into the 1st lube groove makes for the same oal as the 170 grain jacketed.

I have an old Ideal 323470 8mm mould that I use for my .32 Remington. Ran out of gas checks and refuse to pay $27 an M for more. All these bullets go through the same hole at 100 yds. Uh, well, almost. I can keep them on the paper, anyway. I make my brass from .30-30.
