Anybody shot or handled one of the Stainless Marlin XLR leverguns?
I think they are looking kind of sexy with the laminated grey stock and all. The 308 Marlin should be a handy round. Isn't it almost dimensionally the same as the 307 Win? I think somebody said it was just shorter, probably so you couldn't chamber a 308 Win.

I was at my local gunshop this morning and he has one 308 MARLIN EXPRESS XLR on the shelf and says he has another one on the way. I bought a 308 MX 22' blued version but haven't shot it yet.I either version they are a beautiful gun.

Is it true that the new XLR's all have ballard type rifling?

Tell you the truth I've not payed that much attention to them . I do however know for a fact that the 35 REM is micro groove rifled.

So how does your .35Rem shoot? That scope!! mounted on your .35XLR should be able to tell us something about it's accuracy potential with cast boolits.

It did alright with the Hornady Leverevolution ammo . But that scope is now on top of a 336ER . Also I doubt if I shoot cast in any of the XLR's :???:

That 35 will get a more "normal" scope mounted for hunting season and be sighted in with the Hornady stuff . After I kill a deer with it I will try some of my 35 REM reloads in it . But most likely none will be cast loads . I have one or two other 35 REM's that I can shoot cast in as well as a pair of Marlin 336ER's in 356 WIN [smilie=1:

6pt- Very lovely table there. You're a man after my own heart.
Which caliber would you like? Yes.

What is the going price for them?
Are they worth the $600+ price tag?
I've only seen one in 30-30 while in Oregon a week ago, but everything in that shop was way overpriced.

On Gunbroker it looks like an average price is around $620ish.

Here's one in 308M

I can't really say which caliber I prefer until I shoot my new 308 EX .

As far as the price is concerned that is gonna have to be something everyone answers for them selves . Personally I think based on the price of stainless bolt actions they are priced accordingly . Incidently my 30-30 was $599 . The 444 , 450 , 45-70 and 35 REM were all $625 .And my new 308XLR was $619.

That scope has since being on that 35XLR been on my 336ER , then a 444 Handi Rifle . And now it is lying on the table waiting to go on the 308XLR when I go to pick it up tommorrow or friday .

Hey 6pt, Did you get the new 308 Marlin in? How does it shoot? Actual velocity?

Anybody know what steel the stainless Marlins are made of? I wonder if they would hold up to heavy 35 Rem loads? I'm guessing they would if it's the same basic action that the 450 Marlin is built on??

I have had the 308 EX to the range and fired factory ammo in it . However I didn't have a chrony set up . The accuracy wasn't bad but I am hoping it will get better .
I was getting three at 100 in a little under 1.5" :???:

Those groups look good to me, especially from a levergun and with factory ammo.

The gun sure does look good. I think I'm going to have to have one. How much does it weigh?

I found 2 auctions for Stainless Win 94s on gunbroker and the opening bid was $900 and $1000.

I would agree with you , however I got .75" groups with the Hornady rubber tipped stuff in my 30-30 XLR .:???:

I believe they say 8 pounds , however when you hold any of them up they don't seem to be that heavy [smilie=1:

True I already have the 308MXLR , but when I ordered that one I had my dealer order me the 308MX version as well . For the uninformed thats the same thing but in blue and walnut . Also the XLR has a 24" barrel and the MX has a 22" barrel .

Anyway I talked with my dealer yesterday and he informed me that a 308MX was on the way to his shop for me :drinks:

Don't really need it but I wanted it [smilie=1:

When I go there friday to look around , if it's there I will have my digital with me to take a couple pics :-D
