Tonight I am melting down some range lead

I had finished 2 buckets
Started the 3
The 20 quart SS pot had about 1/2" of lead in it
So I dumped in about 80 lb of lead / jackets / paper ect that I pulled out of the bullet trap

I put the lid on , made from 1/4" plate
More to keep stuff out , but it also keeps poping lead in

Sitting down to the computer , waiting for it to melt
I got online to see what you guys are doing
I here a BANG :holysheep :holysheep
I look out the lid is 1/2 off the pot
There is a 44 mag case sitting on the concrete next to the pot

I can only think , some fool thru away a loaded round
By tossing it into the bullet trap :groner: :groner:

Boy am I glad I wasn't looking into the pot when it went off
I wear a full face sheild , long sleaved shirt , leather apron and gloves when I smelt , but it still would have hurt

Be carful

I'm Glad you are ok. We're all been visited by the Tinsel fairy at some point, but in your case she was packin a 44.

Good thing it had a lid. I read or heard a lid will cause condensate?

Last night l dropped an allen wrench off the loading bench on to the floor and the pop was unusually loud but l went ahead with loading and then smelled a spent primer which the wrench had landed on and popped.

In this case, it follows the old Yankee saying that "it is better to be lucky than smart". Being an old Yankee, I kind of live by that, but hope to be smart about a few things now and again.
