I turned up a quantity of 45/55 solder. I'm interested in learning the ins and outs of lead and what to hoard. I have about a 5gallon bucket of chilled shot that I have been saving and and picked up another item I need to get someone to identify. Can anyone recommend a good book on this that would help me get started. I have loaded for many years but the cast stuff was all produced by someone else. Thanks to all for reading.

The way I've always looked at it, if it melts in my lead pot and will form in my moulds, I keep it. Though I do watch out for zinc as that will cause problems. There is atleast one thread on this forum that explains it.

The generally accepted "best" is "From Ingot to Target" found on the Los Angeles Silhouette Club website. It is a GREAT read for new and experienced casters of boolits. enjoy Mike

The shot I have priced is upwards of $2/#. Might want to sell it as shot. A 5 gal bucket might be 200#

With a 25# bag of lead shot costing about $50, I`d think about selling the shot and buying some ingots.Robert

Based on the size of a 25# bag of shot, a five gallon bucket is likely to be closer to 300 lbs than 200 (if not beyond even the higher figure). I'd look for smaller buckets...

It is in a 5gal bucket, but it has what was in 5 bags (125LB). It is just around half full and when I have to move it feels like the bail is going to rip out. The smaller buckets is a good idea
