Gentlemen: I loaded up different loads today and here is what I found out with the Ruger # 1, 375H&H, Lyman 357449,sized at .377, The forearm cannot float, 6-7 In. groups, Hard alloy is no good, 3 to 6 in. groups. That was with 40 grs. IMR4895 and to much recoil, No leading, Same as with 34 grs. 5744, Have to clean ever 6 shots as it will open up group size over 6 in. But with 34 grs. VihtaVuori, 1/2 WW and 1/2 Pure lead , 4 shots at .596 and my normal flyer total of .791, With Herters powders number 100, 41 grs. 4 at .829 and flyer toal is 1.750. How dose this sound. Also why dont it shoot hard alloy and have to be cleaned ever 6 shots. Thanks for the help, Smokemjoe

I use water quenched WW alloy in mine, along with a caseful of H50bmg. I seat a 280gr NEI boolit (.377" also) to where the powder is compressed a bit and get groups near 2100fps and 1.25-1.5" at 100yds. About all I can do with the crummy trigger, (least till I can work on it). I need to find a milder load as these are getting warm on the shoulder.

What would a case full of WC860 be like . Thanks

I think 860 is a bit slower than H50bmg, but I think you would be loading a higher grain weight vs.the H50. Might have to try some of that, as I have some.

Would think velocities would be about the same and just as much unburned powder as I get with H50bmg. Haven't tried a couple of grains of something like bullseye or 231 as a booster for the slow powder, but have heard of others doing that in some guns. Don't know if I would try it.

Probably give higher velocities, but I don't know if I want anything stouter than what I have now.
