1898 Krag Safety

I've got a 1898 Krag. I also have a 1903 Springfield. Are the safeties supposed to work alike when in the same positions?

Yes. The Krag I know for sure is on whether up or to the left. The 03 works the same doesn't it? They are not however interchangeable.

With the 1903 I can cycle the action when the safety is straight up, not so the Krag. Is this correct?

Right, it locks the bolt in either of its off positions on the Krag.
