Bought this mold for my 1911a1. Notice it is the new mold design.
Any comments/loads. Thank you in advance.

4.5 gr. BE, 5 gr. Red Dot, 5.7 gr. Unique–all will give you 800-850 fps.

Not sure what you mean by new. I don't think they have had a new 45acp mold in quite a few years. Any 230gr lead data is viable, but OAL will vary with bullet design.

Fred, I don't think he means a new bullet design but rather the "New Mold Design" by LEE. They have changed the 2 cavs to an alignment pin design. Finally!

The new mold design is what I mean. I like Unique loads in the 45acp. Thanks for the help. I'm looking forward to loading this caliber again. Up to this time I have been using the Blackhawk dual cylinder .45 in 45 acp.

Cast several hundred boolits today with the mold. No problems. Casts nice boolits. They weigh 233-234 grs, dia. 452. Noe to load up a few and see how they shot.

Which bullet type, 2R or TC ? I have TC ,casts 454 and 230grain ,with alloy 95-2,5-2,5....Load them with N320 ,4.8 graina for range and 5.1 grain for SD.

TC. I have been casting these with a 50/50 mix of ww & lino. Cast a couple hundred today. None loaded yet. I don't have a way to post photo, sorry.

I have the truncated cone mold in the tumble lube variation. I found that I needed to size the boolits to maintain a uniform diameter. I used the.452 push through die. I also found that they had to be seated so the angle between the shank and nose of the boolit was right at the case mouth or they would not chamber. Mine consistently casts at about 240 to 245 grains but I was using pretty soft alloy. My gun is an RIA 1911-A1 ,it seemed to do better with herco than with bullseye.

Mine also is an RIA 1911-ai. It seems to shot very well. In Lyman's cast bullet book they list the boolit you use. They seat the boolit just as deep as you do. I had a few t.c. boolits that were given to me. I found out right away they need to seated the way you are seating yours. I have several pounds of 700X a friend gave me to try.Thats all he ever used in the 45 acp. But I have some of the powders you listed that I'll try. Thanks for the info.

Bob - Just a suggestion - If you're using WW's & lino for pistol boolits, You're wasting great alloy. The hardest pistol boolits I cast are straight WW's, with a little tin. Usually, just WW's and 50% softer lead. With the lower velocities, you just don't need great alloy. If it were me, I would save the lino to mix for rifle boolits. JUST MY OPINION. enjoy Mike

Mike, your right about saving the lino for the rifles. Had a pot full of the mix pouring carbine boolits & 45s at the same time. Never gave it a thought till it was too late. The next batch will be WW & range scrap. Again, thanks for the heads up.

The Lee 452-228-1R was the first mold I bought (1987 I think) and it's had hundreds of pounds of lead through it and still going strong. My standard .45acp load is 4.5gr Bullseye with that boolit.

Wanta have some plinking fun? Try loading the TC with 3.6gr of Trailboss. Won't tire your wrist out and still cycles the action.
