Not sure if this is of interest to anyone, but I found some tubing that looks like it was tailor made for us to turn into bullet jackets for .224 projectiles. I found it at Hobbylinc.com. The stuff I am talking about is listed as 7/32 copper or brass tubing. I got 10 pieces in from them last night and did some quick measurements.

OD -- .2175"
ID -- .190"
wal thickness -- .014"

It's beautiful stuff, certainly not as cheap as fired .22 hulls, but if it works like I am thinking, alot less work than drawing down plumbing tube. Just cut to length, cone the end then square it up. Sound right to anyone?

Yep that would do it. I imagine you would be making bullets from 65-85 grains or so since the 22lr jackets cover everything up to 60 so well already?

Yep BT, if I ever do try it that would be the plan. A buddy of mine has an AR with a super tight twist, somewhere around 1 in 6 I think. I hear people are using a similar barrel with 90 grain Sierras to shoot at 1000 yards.

Do they have other sizes?

Brass and copper "hobby" tubing comes in a LOT of sizes.

However, keep in mind that it's manufacture has a lot of steps, with many annealings in between the steps to get it in the tore and on the shelf.

VERY EXPENSIVE!!

You'd still be better off working with refrigeration tubing or brass cases from some caliber of another.

nhrifle,
my cousin runs a white oak "service " barrel with a 1-6.5 twist and he throws the 90 jlk's for 600yards in service competitions
