Trying to use up some primers I had laying around and came across a box of 1000 of Winchester WLP primers that state on the box they are good for STANDARD or MAGNUM pistol loads. These are fairly old and am not quite sure if I should use them for 45 ACP or not. By the statement on the box I have to assume they will be fine but it just threw up a flag. Not sure what I originally bought them for. Anyone use these for standard loads ?

Winchester WLP primers ( for STD and Mag ) is all I use for 45ACP, 45 Colt and 44 Mag. 45's I mostly load with W231 and 44
with H110 or W296. Have had zero problems.

Ive used thousands for loading the 45 ACP with no problems. but never used them for slow burning pistol powders in other cartrages

I prefer them over all others simply because they never fail in any application. They will fire massive charges of the slowest handgun powders and do not cause over pressure problems with small charges of fast powder. The label is right; they work as labeled.

They are my preferred large pistol primer. Good for 45ACP or 44 spl/44 mag. No problems with slower powders such as H110.

I've loaded a few thousand with no problems. I do use Fed. Mag primers for the H110 /W296 because I don't think they're as hot as the Fed.

Win. LP primers will work just fine for the 45 auto. I use wolf for my 45 auto because they are cheaper, are consistent and work well but won't use wolf for larger charges of H110 or other slower ball powders.

Most lg pistol stuff I shoot is Win where applicable. I like Fed small rifle and lg rifle for the other pistol cartridges.

Win has been good to me.

Take care

Use them for the purposes stated on the box, or send them to me and I will give them a home.

I have been using Winchester LP primers in my .30/30's. 28 grains of 4895 burns clean with them.

Loaded zillions, fairly hot primer but works just fine in .45 ACP loads for me.

Also all I use for 45 ACP, I would, personally, be a little wary of using them as magnum primers, but as standard primers they are my go to large pistol primer.

I've loaded .45acp with WLP primers for over 20 years. The only problem I ever had was when I did not seat the primers all the way home. That was my fault, not the primer.

Winchester has used this primer for loading all large pistol primed ammo for years, including the 41 Mag and 44 Mag loads. Can't remember where I saw the article where Winchester addressed this issue of standard/magnum loadings with this primer, but they stated this primer had absolutely no problems igniting heavy W-296 charges as loaded in their own cartridges.
