Scoping a Desert Eagle?

I have a first generation Desert Eagle in .44 Mag. My question is can scopes be mounted directly to the dovetail on the barrel or does a base have to be fitted first?

I don't think they changed them. Pretty sure rings go right on the barrel with all of them.

The reason I ask is that the dovetail looks really narrow. Don't have the gun handy at the moment but will measure it the next time I am in the safe.

I don't recall the rings but mine's scoped. Works fine.

I am pretty sure I have a scope base for that model. If I find it and you want it I would sell it for $10.00 plus shipping. I will ship it for $5.00 in the usa.

Width of a Weaver base is .840".
