.44 S&W Russian

Hello, looking to purchase bullets or a bullet mold for the .44 S&W Russian cartridge. Thank you in advance for any help you may provide.

What gun? Later smokeless loads were 245 gr. round nose bullet. A 250 Keith would work too. Both of those will recoil quite a bit but you may have a fixed sight revolver. If so, find out what weight of bullet the manufacturer of the revolver set the sights for.

Then figure out how big your cylinder throats are. You will want your mold to drop bullets at least that big. You will then need a sizer die of the same diameter for your lubrisizer.

These will work, 200 grainers with lots of lube.

I use black powder with my .44 Russian. The mold I use is the Lee 429-240-2R. With BP, I get best results with magnum primers.

Hi Gmoon. I don't have a russian but in my 44 colt Richards Mason convertions (Uberti) I use either the Accurate 43-205c or the Lyman #429251RN. The Accurate boolit is excellent & provides plenty of lube so the guns are very easy to clean & dont foul out as quick. I also can't say enough about the quality of the Accurate molds.

If you have an original S&W Model 3 in 44 Russian DO NOT shoot smokeless in it. The cylinder walls are way too thin to support the pressure. Stick to BP loads the way as it was designed to be used.

The IDEAL 429106 is an early .44Russian design for target use. I had Bruce at BRP make me a modified clone mold. I use this as a plinking/target bullet in .44 Special.
