I can pick this up for $10 but it looks pretty bad and im wondering if it can be cleaned up enough to use.
Its a Lyman 452374 single cavity but its preety rusted at the top where the spru plate and alignment pin is and down to the lube grove

A mold that you can't see is not worth $10. It there supposed to be a picture?

might be some instructions in the testing area.

Actually, almost any mold is worth $10. If nothing else and the cavities are ruined, it can usually be converted to something else useful.

I'm going to go with the opinion that almost any mold is worth $10. If it uses detachable handles, the handles are worth more than that (assuming they're included). Otherwise, a blank block for a custom mold is more than that from Lee, never mind Lyman or RCBS.

Who made the mold?

If you dont mind the single cav business, that mold will clean right on up and be completely useable. I cleaned one like that once, casts great. Mike PS Looks like a Lyman 452374 - very popular boolit. Hope it's big enough.

it's worth 10 bucks easily.
that mold will clean right up.
clean it as best as you can cast some boolits in it, and spin some lapping compound in the cavitys with them.
you'll open the mold a little in the process.

I'd just clean it with some mineral spirits and a brush, then judge if it needs more cleaning. I just bought one like it for more, but it was pristine. The sprue plate may need to be sanded with fine sandpaper on a very flat surface, such as a piece of glass.

The mold is absolutely worth at least $10. Even it you weren't interested in it, you could pick it up for trade goods later. You would need to stop the rusting though. It looks like it would clean up well.

Definitely worth $10 and it will clean up easy.

I cleaned this one up with some EvapoRust.

The base may be a little oversized as it looks like the corrosion goes into the metal. Larger base may not be an issue when run through a sizer.

As has been said, that mold will clean up fine, but you just have to ask yourself if you really want a single cavity 45 ACP mold. If you are one of those people who like to spend hours casting for 10 minutes of shooting then buy it. Now I am exagerating, but not by much. Give me at least four cavities for an auto loader. But that is just my preference.

I'd defintely say buy it for $10, it will clean up easily and cast good boolits, and is a good
design - IF you are OK with the slow production of a single cav mold and want a
RN design.

I have the 4 cav of this design but shoot too much pistol ammo for a single cav
to make sense FOR ME, it may be perfect for you, esp if just starting out and $$
is tight or you just don't shoot .45 ACP a lot. Good design, definitely salvagable,
but slow.
