I like Mihec's 452-200-hp. When I first got the brass mould, I was reluctant to use it because it looked so good. But I did and I'm glad I did because it works fine in my Gold Cup. Just my two cents...

One of the H&G 68 200 gr. SWC knock offs gets my vote. MiHec makes a true copy.

For paper, the SWC is the standard. Some guns don't like to feed them though.

I am also a big fan of the Lee 6-cav flat point for all around use. If I had a new mold in my budget, that would probably be the one that I would buy. I borrowed one from a buddy once & had very good luck with it.

I've not met a .45 that wouldn't function with a H&G 68 seated to the proper length. It is a very accurate bullet also. Ballisticast makes good moulds with the original H&G cherries.

I run the lee 6 banger model # 452-228-1R in a M/10 45 acp
with a push through sizer. and lee liquid alox.

Total WCWW after sizing I hit them real light with a squirt bottle of mineral spirits and re tumble.
No leading and the gun has run close to 5 K like this with a two stage suppressor.

H&G 68 or close clone. Load to 1.250 to 1.260 LOA, you should taper crimp with
a separate taper crimp die to a mouth diam of about .471". Dismount the barrel
and use it as a gage, loaded round should drop fully into the chamber, max 1 lb
fingertip pressure to fully seat.

After owening about 15 handguns chambered in 45 ACP over the years, My fist choice would be a HG 68 or a copy of that design,
I have been using a 8 cavity Saeco 068 for 30+ years, i do have 3 other moulds from 160gr to 230gr for the 45 ACP but the 68 is my go to bullet

the lee has a bit more taper on the base than i like.
it does come in 6 cavity though.
i went with the lyman 4 cavity 452630.
i had a magma 2 cavity 68 copy which made great boolits just not enough of them.

I got the molds you fellowes have listed , but in my gold cup , 3 kimbers and Spr. the Lee Tl452-200SWC lubed. out shoots the others. 4.3 grs. bullseye, indoor bench I get 1 in. groups, For a bullet that dont look so good shoots the best.6 Cav.

Then you haven't shot them in a XD45. They will nto feed 100% in most. The new XDM & maybe XDS are supposed to have solved this, but a RN or TCFP will be 100% in any gun. I like teh 200grTCFP by Magma, but it's only a 2cav. Nothing wrong w/ the 228grRN from Lee, works well for just punching paper.

The most consistantly accurate boolit design I have ever used in the 45 acp is the Lyman 451460.

For me: Ballisti cast #668 or the Hg #68 200gr and the the Lyman 195 gr (number escapes me) for my Gold Cup. I cast up a bunch at at a time.
Both kill paper very well.

In my Compact Taurus Millenium Pro, it likes the Lee 200 gr RNFP the best. The 230 TC Lee is second.

What Fred said: XD's do NOT like SWC's for some reason. I would find a few to test first before committing to an expensive SWC mold. If it's just a Lee and it doesn't feed...what the heck you just keep it for the next .45 that magically appears in the safe!! Hopefully a 1911 of some sort. [smilie=1: Then just get in on a group buy for the Mi-hec 45-200 HP Cramer and get it over with. It will feed in anything. Good luck!

If you are just starting out the Lee 200gr RNFP or the 230TL are both great starters. You don't have a fortune invested. I cycle these through a COlt 1911, a parts 1911 with an Essecs frame and a Remington slide and my favorite, a Bersa Thunder 45 Ultra Compact. Drop the 230 TL in to water and they don't have to be sized. I use wheel weights and recycled range lead that is almost all wheel weights.I mix the Alox that comes with the mold 50/50 with Johnson wax. I size and lube the 200 gr RNFP with White Lable Lube from LsStuff.com (2500 or Carnauba Red) I have used the 50/50 tumble lube with the 200 RNFP but never felt secure with just a coating in the large grooves. I load these with Unique or Bullseye for 760-800 LFS load. They are very consistent and I have never had any Leading issues. I hesitate to put actual loads in the forum. It's been more then a year since I posted and I' not sure of the rules right now.

H&G 68 clone hands down.

I agree with the H&G 68 or a good clone like the one from Mihec. I have found that in most double stack mags these don't work so well, but in a 1911 type pistol they are the best. For high cap pistols I would recommend a 230gr round nose boolit.

I'd go for this one.

or this one.

I really like both.

I like using the Saeco 069 the most because it is the most accurate in my Bullseye wadcutter guns. A very very close second is the Saeco 068. The Lyman 452630 is an excellent shaped bullet but I am not as fond of the mold quality. My next choice is a Lee 6 cavity 190 grain flat base bullet that was a group buy but again the mold is not as good of quality as the Saecos. All of these are a close copy of H&G 68's bullet. Even the H&G varied over the years a little bit so it would be an opinion as to which was the closest clone but they are all very close. If you would like to try a few of these bullets in your gun to see if they will work, let me know and I will send you some. That way you will know if they will feed in your gun. Often times these will feed in 1911's while the stubby nose 185 grain bullets more than likely will not. -- Bill --

Current production XDs are fine with SWCs, but the older ones would not work with them
due to design issues.
