Well my eyes or getting old and the sights getting fuzzy on my Enfield no1 mk 3. Time to put on a scope. Has anyone tried the ATI mount ? How did it work out for you?

Does the ATI mount block fit on an SMLE? The picture I saw was for a No4.

I can't comment on the ATI except that I liked the design of the S&K better so got one and am very happy with it. That one is on one of my No. 5's with a Redfield scope mounted. I later bought a No. 4 with a cheap scope and S&K scope mount on it for $150.00. Since the scope mount alone is worth $65.00 I think I did okay. Both work well.

I found the S&K very easy to install and very solid. It looks as though there are some differences in the S&K scope mounts for the No. 1 and No. 4 with the S&K and ATI being more similar for the No. 1, though the ATI has more cantilever. Not sure if that matters. They both appear to have similar mounting systems and are probably equivalent.

Probably not much help but another option for you to consider.

They make 2 different mounts. One for the no1 mk3 only. this is the one I was talking about. From what I have Googled I think I will order one.

Tried the ATi with my No1.MKIII for a few months and gave up. It would tighten up nicely, but after a few rounds would loosen and start to rise. After switching to the S&K, all problems solved. It cannot move when properly installed.

The S&K is only $55 at Brownells (C&R)

Thanks for the information. I should have mentioned the mount is being bought for me, for a late Christmas Present. I wanted to keep the cost down for the relative getting it for me.

The BEST mounts I have tried for the Smelly were the old Weaver side mounts. The Weaver drill and tap tip off mount is about next in line. I wish i could say something nice about the ATI but they come in loose a LOT.

don't want to ruin a nice Enfield by drill and tapping.

Solder a bridge to the side flats like this.

This was my first ever attempt and making a scope mount. I had no mill and no TIG and I made the mistake of cutting the rail between the scope rings so I could use the scope as a carry handle, which I did for quite a while but not anymore. Anyway, it's the principle I'm trying to show, not my workmanship.[smilie=1:

It's soldered on, front and rear. I did give the front a large curved surface. Oh yes, it's a see through mount so iron sights could still be used. It can't be lowered much as the bolt head only just clears the bridge but a lower ring set could be used. However, I want it high. Those side bits go right down below the wood but not all the way. The second one I did I took the sides down flush with the receiver bottom flats.

This gun never loses its zero and shoots 1 1/2 inch, ten shot groups.

Nice. Relative got me the ATI mount. If it does not work out I will give your design a try. Like you, I do not have all the right tools to make it, but believe I can do it.
