With that extra crimp groove, it seems like a great place to put additional lube. Anyone experiment with this?

I always do for 38spl I don't think you really need the extra lube but I've always used it that way. I think the extra grove was made to crimp 38spl loads futher out for a 357 pistol. I've never gotten any leading using this load with 5gr unique in 40+ years of loading it.

Many times. Hasn't made a heap of difference accuracy-wise, as long as the boolits fit they shoot well. The gas checks scrape out any leading that might build up, so accuracy (or lack thereof) is the only performance barometer I can assess with. FWIW, some rather intrepid revolver chow (to 1500 FPS+) has shot VERY well in the 357 BisHawk x 7.5" with only the lube groove and check shank gap filled (Javelina). Not a "blackbore", but not gray either.
