Just wanted to share a success story. The stars aligned yesterday with my .280 remington. I have wanted to cast for some time for my rifles. Midsouth had a soupcan 130 on sale for $18 last week. I figured what the heck. Cast at 132 grains acww hornady checks felix lube sized .285 they make a neat looking boolit. I have plenty of 2400 on hand as well as trail boss and unique. Shooting a 28" pro hunter Tc encore the best by far was 2400. All groups were under 2" at 100 yds. The smallest was under 1" 3 shot group with 18 grains. It is not a super fast load but ES was less than 31 fps over a 20 shot string. average was 1871 over the 20 shot string. Absolutley no lead in bbl. Groups ranged from under 1" to 1.5 with this boolit. I never would have dreamed my first outing with cast rifle would end up like this. Been casting pistol boolits for years. This encore has never shot like this. Trailboss groups were horrible but 2400 is the stuff for the .280.

Congratulations! I started reloading seriously for a .280, but never shot cast in it. Don't have the rifle anymore, but recently had a Mexican Mauser my brother was working on for me returned to me with a new barrel and I'm sure it will be a cast bullet plinker. I have the Lee bullet mold for 7mm (which I found to be a good shooter in a previous 7x57) and also a Lyman 287405 mold out there somewhere I've never cast with. I have shot some my dad cast with that mold and they shot Ok if I recall, just not as well as the Lee.

I've fairly recently gotten into hunting deer with my cast bullets with .30s and may want to try a 7mm. I'm thinking that Lyman 287405 cast soft and hollow pointed on my Forster trimmer may work well. Gotta cast some up and give it a try this year.

Good job! Its exciting to get the good results!

It took me a while to boost my velocities above 2100fps and maintain accuracy.(.308win)
Lyman #311299 200grain. Straight WW+Tin. Air cooled. Sized to .310".
Home made brass gaschecks.

Congratulations! The .280 Rem is a very underappreciated round. SO much potential to be had!

I recently started playing with cast in my 280 as well.
Unique is working quite well with the 287-150-FN from NOE.
13 grains shoots under 1.5 inch.
2400 is my next trial.
I've just heat treated a batch with copper alloyed into it
to go into the 2000fps+ range, we'll see what happens :)

The 280 is the most versatile round we have, I cannot believe how under appreciated it is.
I have one in a mt rifle i set up for my wife and it shoots one ragged hole. You can sight
this rifle in with 1 shot groups.( I do not have another, many at considerably more cost that
come close)

I'm aware this thread is old. I'm hoping maybe somebody is still interested in talking about the round or even the guns its available in?
Ive got a 700 mtn rifle Bdl . Ive taken two white tail with it one with 54.0 of ww-760 pushing a speer 120g boattail the other 57.8 of wmr pushing 160g speer boattail. Both dispatched about in there tracks, not as impressive as it sounds as the further shot of the two was 30 yds. and if nobody wants to talk .280 maybe they'll sell a mold =)
