Have any of you guys used White Lable's Carnuba Red on 38 special and/or 45 acp boolits going 800-850 fps? If so, does it work well at those lower velocities? I am thinking of switching to Carnuba Red for my pistol boolits.
Thanks,

I made the Switch to Carnuba Red this past year and most of my shooting is 45 acp. "Carnuba Red is all that i use now"

I used lots of it for just that a few years back. Worked quite well.

That's all I use in a S&W 64-5 38 special, with lead sized .358, and not a trace of leading.

I've used it but switched to White Labels Commercial Red 160 degree, so I could bulk pack the bullets loose for storage. Both perform well the commercial is slightly less tacky and stores with less lube transfer between loose bullets.

How do you rate the smoke off the Carnauba Red lube compared to other lubes?

I have been using Carnuba Red for the past couple of years in my 38's and my 45 LC. Velocity runs about 720 ft./sec. You shouldn't have any problems.

texas coast would be a good area for the regular red.
it's a good revolver hot weather lube.

I use it on everything from 550fps 32 S&W to 3,000 fps 223 Rem boolits with no problems. Only the really fast loads smoke at all.

Interesting to read these accounts. I'm a new user of Carnauba Red, and intended it for higher-velocity work......but have applied it to some pistol boolits just for grins & jollies. Too many distractions have largely kept me off the range since I set up the new 4500 with CR, but it will happen soon.

I like CR for everything from 9mm to 45-70. I shoot a lot of it in 45acp.

I too like C-Red, however my next order is gonna be the commercial blend. I've heard its not as tacky, although I've been adding some extra bees wax to take care of that problem, using the commercial blend in solid sticks melted for use in the Star should be a little cheaper as well.

If ya gonna buy a lube CR will fill the bill & then some .

When I first found it I used it on everything speeding up boolits in handgun & rifle until I stripped lead ,but the lube still held it`s own !!

My sinuses can`t tolerate alox at all , it stops my head up as tite as a drum , CR has less smoke & does`nt bother my sinuses.

We loaded some up for a SASS shoot , but they did`nt smoke enuff for my buddy.

Another full time user of CR here... for all of my cast boolits...

Yep I use only CR now tried all the Lyman offerings the Whites stuff is the best, low smoke, sticks to the boolits real good. Robert

All I use is CR, it'll firm up given a little time after sizing and lubing. The only other lube I use is Rooster Red, but only if I'm casting and sizing handgun boolits for a couple of friends that requested it.

Since I can't get Rooster Red Zambini anymore, I've switched to CR. Seems to fit the bill for me just fine. I use it mostly higher velocity .30 cal stuff. I like softer stuff for my pistol (.38 and .45) and I'm just finishing my very last tube of Tammarack. I've ordered some of White Labels 50/50 to replace that though. You really can't beat their prices.

I shoot only 45acp and CR works fine. It leaves the barrel shiny after shooting, and it does it with relatively low smoke depending on the ambient temperature. I would rate it a first class boolit lube for most hand gun calibres.
My only complaint is that when you store your boolits in bulk, the CR gets tacky in summer time when the ambient gets up around the 90's.

Another alternative for a slightly softer lube, if you so desire, is to get some White Label BAC. If you want it slightly harder, mix 1 stick BAC with one stick Canuba Red. That'll give you an excellent lube between BAC and CR as far as hardnes is concerned. If I were buying all of my lubes, White Label Lubes are far and away the best for the money on the market which is all I'd buy. LARS has done a great job of developing lubes that are effective and cost efficient, IMHO.

I haven't had much range time since I swithed over to CR but with what I've seen so far in 357 mag and 30 herrett I need to look no farther

You should try the BAC for your 38 and 45 as those are the calibers it is made for. If it is a little too soft for your summer heat then add beeswax, carnauba flakes or a little more Carnauba Red. It is a Blend of Carnauba Red and the old NRA 50/50 recipe.

It's all I've used in my 45.
Shot thousand of rounds with no leading. From 90 degree says to 30 degree days so far. Hot loads in the .45 AR to light target loads in the ACP no issues with either.
Easy to tell which boolits in the berm are yours too. That stuff stay on the boolit for good!

I like the ease of use. Less sticky than the bac or javalena I used prior.

I'm going to order some Carnuba Red but not sure how much to order. I plan on pan lubing my bullets in a 9"x9" silicone pan. Would a one pound block be enough?

Have switched from Javelina NRA 50/50 to CR for everything from 9mm to 470 NE. In handguns the smoke level is better than most lubes. I do use a heater when I lube projectiles in cooler weather.

Have read some comments that CR is not particularly good in cold weather. Anyone have any problems with it in the cold?

Good news, I was thinking about buying lube after I am done with my own stash and I want a single lube for everything from 44 wadcutters to 223 velocities.

I came up with a blend of 1 stick of C. Red melted with 2 sticks of BAC. Melt on low/Medium heat and pour into luber when needed. I wait several hours then resume lube/sizeing. This lube mix has worked in all sizes from .357 up to .416 with no leading. No heater is needed to work thru a lube sizer.Robert

Good lube, shoots well in about everything I cast for. That said, in my opinion it is best as a lube at temps above 50 degrees.

what are the issue with it in cold temps?
does it not do its job?

Good stuff but it needs heat in my basement. Glen makes good lube.
Yet he does too much with Alox because many demand the junk. I know he needs to meet demand.
The lube he makes WITHOUT Alox is best.
He can alter CR to make both a harder lube and a softer one. I would love to see SOFT CR.
He also makes a great BP lube.

what does the alox do to the mix? please excuse my ignorance. thanks!

I used Carnauba red on all .38spl and .45acp loads until I switched to his Commercial Grade 160. The CR worked well on all the loads that I have used it on. I went to the CG160 because it is less tacky and will handle the hot weather better. I liked the CR, just like the CG160 better.

I've been using Lars White Label Carnauba Red for several years. All of my shooting these days is target velocity in the .32, .38/.357, .44 Special/.44 Magnum, .45 ACP/.45 Colt. It works perfectly - excellent accuracy with no leading.
