I recently picked up a very nice nickel plated #3 handle w/dies in 45 LC from a friend cleaning house. I have 310 tools and dies that I use for other calibers but I have a question concerning the function of the long pin and mating hole in the #3 tool. The first hole is threaded for dies, and the second hole fits the case and is apparently the priming station. But the third hole mikes 0.455" ID and the long pin is pinned into the opposite handle. Is this third station for bullet sizing? If so, the pin seems to be too small in diameter to prevent some damage to the bullet base or nose. So, I need a wizard to help me clear up this station's function.

Yes, it sizes the boolit.

And back in 1935 in his book "Sixgun Cartridges and Loads" Elmer Keith recommended not sizing boolits with the hole in the handle, due to out of round issues.
