I met a guy who has a tire store and of course was asking him about his used WW. Anyways the short version is in a standard 5 gal. bucket how many pounds of WWs will it hold and what is a fair price for it?
I don't want to over pay and I don't want to jip the fellow either.
Thanks.

Offer him a box of Krispy Kremes. It worked for YEARS for at 4 different tire shops. They all were happy to see "the Donut Guy" until someone else showed up and offered the boss money for the WWs.

Heck, one place even had the youngest guy there loaded them in the truck for me while everybody else had a donut break.

Krispy Kreme went out of business out here, dagnabbit.

Problem is, I think, that the tires guys have wised up to the fact that they can get a good price for it. The price today was .35/lb. If the scap yard pays half that it is still $26.25 for a 150 pound bucket. I wouldn't give it away to a stranger.

Offer a 12 pack or case of beer. Sometimes that will be more appealing and cost a little less than they want in $.

I take a big pizza to the guys at lunch every 3-4 buckets.

$10 per bucket in one place, free in another (only about 1 bucket per year) and a case of Harpoon IPA ($25) per two buckets in another (about every two months or so). I would be glad to pay $20 per bucket if I had to.

$25 for a full 5 gallon bucket in my area. No quibbling. It just appears to be the going rate....like they all had a meetin' about it or sump'n!

I paid $5.00/5 gal. bucket last time, got 3 pails full. Just about time to go back and check again. They are a small tire shop just down the road, never even gave them a thought 'til last Spring. Another place was asking $15/bucket and I dismissed them, I may have to re-consider??!! Emery

20 bucks will get you a bucket just about anywhere i go. but if its half full they get 10 (sounds obvious enough)

I'll take them for FREE when possible. It varies from place to place it seems these days. I'd feel a bit of a sting giving $25 for a 5 gallon bucket full. $20 isn't too bad.

I'd offer him $15 and feel comfortable with myself about it.

I paid $40 for two buckets full last week...one weighed 90lbs, the other 115...so, 20-cents a pound.

$40 for two buckets full---they saw you coming. People get them for $20 a bucket.

Last buckets cost me $10 Each. Happy to have them at that price!

Got 128 ingots (approximately 1 pound each) out of the last full bucket after sorting out the stick-on weights and other junk.

I paid up the A$$ for the last ones I got, but pickings are getting slim around here. I am starting to think that I got too many people in the area interested in casting!

I did a big smelt (for me) last weekend and made 280lbs of good quality ingots. I tallied up the lead on the shelf and I've got over 600lbs and I only started in January. I figure I paid an average of .10 per pound. FWIW

I guess I have the hookup knowing a fella that works at a tireshop. I end up trading him a bucket of WW for a pickup truck full of wood for his wood burner. He doesn't even care if they are cut into 18" chunks, or split, as he usually just cuts 2ft sections off and throws them in the burner....the old fart will go all winter sitting in his house in his underwear, windows open, sweating his nuts off.:-D

Local pine is $150 a cord, ww $20 a bucket I would rethink it if it were me. Gianni

I'm just taking out trees that are already down out of my parent's woods to clean the woods up, and get some extra shooting fodder out of the mix. Unless I want to drive an hour or more to some of the bigger cities, I won't get that where I'm at, so I just figure the cost of some gas to drive to his place, and a bit for the saw. It probably totals to about the same cost or a bit less, plus I get a workout out of it.

I still get my WWs free from 'old sources' but $20/bucket seems to be the average price around here. A buddy that I recently corrupted into casting tells me some shops tell him they don't have any WWs but if his wife checks the same shops a day or two later they have nice full buckets - and they put them right into her vehicle ! Of course, she is considerably better looking than he is .
