Gonna try my hand again at a batch of FWFL. Not sure that I got the first batch properly heated. Basic instructions say to heat castor and mineral oil together, reduce heat when smoking begins and stir for 30 minutes. Just how much smoking should one expect to see at the outset? Should it be heavy or light? I reduced the heat at the first wisps of smoke. Was that right?

The batch came out quite sticky and I was unable to use it to pan lube, so I added a bit of parafin. That stiffened it (not hardened) but I was still not quite satisfied with my results overall. I mixed a bit of it half and half with my homemade mix but it appears that is giving up the ghost at 1800-2000 fps, right at the top velocity of my 357 Maximum rifle.

You want it just short of any smoking. If its too sticky , add more bees wax . ...Buck

1800-2000fps. Is that with a plain base or gas checked bullet?
For a plain base, that's not too bad.

I belive that Felix says you can reheat and make everything mix together. It will just take longer on the heat, but don't go too high to ruin the Lanolin.
