I cast a Lee 452-228-R1 That I assumed was 228 gr with #2. I also cast a 452-300 that I assume would be 300gr with Lyman #2 OK here's the deal the 300 gr comes out with my alloy and GC sized and lubed to 313 gr but the 228 comes out sized and lubed to 222 gr. Is this common? Is the 228 mold for a 200 gr boolit? Why does it cast heavy on one but light on the other? I'm learning as I go and apologize for the probably "stoopid" questions. My boolits all weigh within a gr or less of each other and shoot well Maybe I shouldn't worry. Thanks in advance.

Yup, its common. I don't think I have a single mold in which my bullets fall at exactly the advertised weight.

The only stupid question is the one you're too proud to ask. My 452-228 6cav drops at 228 +/- 1gr with WW's and measures .460 in all 6 cavities. I consider myself amazingly lucky to have it. The single cavity HP version I have drops them at 219-220gr/.459 with the same alloy. I do not have a 300. The numbers are at best a ballpark estimate as there are so many possible alloys that could be used. For me, the most important number is the diameter, as many Lee moulds are undersized, and that number varies with the alloy used, too.

Thanks - that helps clear that up. I'll mark the mold boxes with the dia. and weight as casted for a future referance and that should tell me if there are any radical changes in my alloy mix. Like I said they all came out about the same weight and shot well just puzzled me. Thanks again to all for the help.
