A couple years ago, my neighbor asked me if I thought I could fit a barrel blank to a Rolling Block action for him. I told him it sounded like a fun project. Some time later, he handed me a NIB Pedersoli action & Green Mountain tapered octagon .45 blank & said it was mine if I'd do a couple other 'smithing jobs & get his Norton Commando motorcycle running. An offer I couldn't refuse!
So I took my time carefully fitting the barrel & chambered it to 45/70 since I had a Siamese Mauser in that caliber & had dies & plenty of brass, & figured I could always go to 45/90 or -110 later if I wanted to.
After many hours fitting & polishing the works, I couldn't put just any wood on it & forked out some $ for fiddleback walnut from Treebone Carving.
I think it came out pretty nice & it shoots well with the 350gr Gould HP cast soft & 75gr SWISS FFFg

After taking a deer with it, I realized that target sights aren't good for this old man in the woods anymore so I added a Malcolm scope.

Yes sir looks real good. but it would look much better in my safe. I really should be the owner of that petty little thing. :kidding: great Job.

That's one nice bit of work. You've certainly got an eye for the shapes to go along with the selection of the wood. And I love how you've kept it proper by using the old style Malcolm scope.

Kwilfong, I have a weakness for rolling blocks and that is a beautiful piece work. I have a 7MM RB that is original but the chamber is a waste. I also have a beautiful half round, half oct barrel that is aready blued, threaded for the RB and chambered in 45/90. I just can't seem to work up the courage to take the 7 MM apart. There are times when I say, I'm gonna do it. Alas, when I pick up the gun, complete with ramrod, I get cold feet and put it back in the safe. I have a Pedrsoli Sharps as well as a Siamize Mauser both in 45/70 and I have lots of brass, even 45/90. I also have plenty of 45 cal molds. I just can't take that final step.

Gotta love those Siamese Mausers in 45/70 too! I've put more venison in the freezer with mine than everything else put together.

Ol' Thumper. Got it semi-built & finished it about 25 years ago. It just fits me & works. Sierra 300gr JHP's on top of 52 gr 4198 is the standard load & kills clean w/o a bunch of bloodshot venison.

That is the nicest looking Sianise I have ever seen. Kind of looks like a short barrelled Rigby.

Yes! A very nice looking rifle indeed. I've had a hankering for a nice Siamese .45-70 ever since I read Frank Marshal's story about his. Kwilfong, my applause to you and your craftsmanship - and a bit of envy for those fine rifles!

Youve got a beautiful rolling block there. I would be proud to have one myself. A work of art indeed. Rick!

Thanks for the kind words!! I picked that one up semi-finished in a local gunshop back around '87. I think that's a Bishop stock. I finished & glass bedded it, floating the barrel from about 2" in front of the action. Put in a Wolf striker spring & Timney trigger, polished & blued. Just a couple years ago, I had a pro checker the stock. Long time ago, I missed one, then a couple years later, got two does with one shot so it has collected as many deer as shots fired in the field. I like the terminal ballistics a lot better than my 308; not nearly as much bloodshot meat & sharp bone fragments.

Put some more venison in the freezer with the Siamese Mauser a couple weeks ago. Really big (for the Ozarks) dry doe showed up just before dark. Steep downhill shot, facing nearly head-on. Put the 300gr Sierra HP to base of her neck & she just folded up right there. 38# of hot breakfast sausage + backstrap & tenderloin, heart & liver.

I got a Rolling block to rebarrel, but the barrel on it is a 38 Special chamber that is so much tighter than SAAMI that I need to test fire it before I pull the barrel.

looks like a dandy. please do report what it were and what is. accuracy? might be worth shooting after all to find a peach dressed like a prune. would like to see a closer photo of the action with the back section of for arm.

You should be proud of this. The gun looks great and the stain color complements the bluing.
