I built myself a Rolling Block a couple years ago to play with BP cartridges. I shoots real nice with the 350gr Gould HP on top of 75gr SWISS 3f & a .030" veggie wad.

This was my 1st buck with that rifle (also 1st with cast boolit & 1st with BP cartridge). I realized that these 50+ year old eyes don't do well with target sights in the woods so I put a Malcolm scope on it before last season.

That load does about 1700fps & with the soft cast HP it's a hammer!

If I may ask. Just what kind of components have you used to build that Jewel. the scope looks like a melcolm copy. what power is it? I want to put one on my sharps. you did a great Job. thanks for sharing.

DUH.....boy! its amazing what one can learn just by reading the text on the post. I feel so smart. once again great work. GD

So you saw on the other post that it's a Pedersoli action, Green Mountain barrel, & wood from Treebone carving. The scope is a Leatherwood Malcolm 3x. I was afraid the longer 6x would have too limited a field of view for close shots in the woods. I've been very satisfied with it. The 1st one had a small "smudge" in the field of view & Leatherwood's Customer Service was great to work with & replaced it promptly. I recommend them highly.

Nice rifle, nice buck.

Give yourself another ten years and you'll really appreciate the scope. I've been toying with putting one on my Sharps so I could hunt with it again.

Again, nice rifle, nice buck.

Nice job on the rifle and the buck. 45-70 is a great rifle. I have never built one but I shoot a couple. They do an awesome job on deer. One of mine is open sights and the other is scoped.
