I want to buy a mold for my Remington Model 25 (pump action) rifle, and would like to know what you suggest.
I know that the original bullet weighed ~ 86 grains, but I would consider any or all suggestions.
Thanks.

RCBS has this 2 cav mold . . . Cowboy Action Shooting .25-20 Win-85 gr and should be available from Huntingtons for $77.85

Huntingtons - Bullet Molds (http://www.huntingtons.com/bulletmoulds.html) It's near the bottom of this page.

Midway also lists a few RCBS .258" molds from 85 gr to 120 gr but they don't stock them, when you order from Midway they then order from the factory and you wait several weeks for it to be shipped to them and then they ship it to you.

First, you need to measure the twist. If it's a 1-14, go with a Lyman 257420. If it's a 1-12 or a 1-10, you can go with the heavier 86 grain bullet.

If you want to be sure, go with the 257420 and be done with it. Casts a 70 grain GC and shoots in either twist all right./beagle

thank's beagle.
i was gonna point out lot's of the 25-20's don't do so well with the heavier boolit weights.
i'd suggest something in the 70 gr weight range.
and you'll probably want a 259-260 pour diameter.

yep beagle gave you great advise i have a savage model 23 and a stevens model 44 in 25/20 had a heck of a time trying to get a bullet that was stable. it was hard to figure out how a bullet would know how to hit the target sideways. i must admit it makes a big hole but most dont even hit the paper. i have had great results with the lyman 254420 and i dont think you will find a better mould. argie1891 ps i might have a spare i will look and if i do i will pm you.

Thanks for the advice folks; I've ordered the Lyman 254420 mold and 25 caliber gas checks.

I normally don't reply as a "me too" poster, but the Lyman 257420 works so well in my Marlin lever action that I just HAD to post this info. The modern Marlin lever action is a strong action rifle. I have three loads that work quite well. 4.0 grs of Unique make a superb squirrel load. 11.0 grs of RL-7 makes a nice Medium load and 14.0 grs (compressed load) makes a fine high velocity load (similar to the old factory high velocity load) and chronographs just under 2200 fps.

All three of these loads will shoot perfect scores on the smallbore target at fifty yards off the bench (not a high "x" count but very reliable accuracy).

In my Marlin 1894 NOE 260-80 solved the keyholing problems I'd had with the 86 gr Lyman bullet. Didn't change sizing diameter or anything - just bullets.

I have this mold Cowboy Action Shooting .25-20 Win-85 gr and it IS a tricky one to load for,,I have yet to get successful accuracy with my savage 25-20
so based on my experience I would agree that a lighter boolit would be a better place to start
