Hello Folks
I have a 1909 Watson Brothers double rifle that was badly re-rifled from .400 Purdey to 444 Marlin, I have started the process of having the barrels replaced with shiny new barrels rifled for .400 Purdey, the reloading data for the .400 Purdey is a .405" 230 gr rn projectile doing about 2050 fps, the only bullets I can find are Woodleigh projectiles at $65.00 per box of 50, a little expensive, I already cast 45/70, .44,.38, 9mm, .300 Sherwood and 32/20 so I thought casting .400 would be the way to go but I can't find a suitable mold some close but no cigar, does anybody know a mold maker that makes a suitable mold.

Anything made for a .41 at the common .412 diameter should size down to .405 without problems. Seems to me there are a number of 230 grain molds for .41 Magnum that should drop around .412, though not so many round nose.

Maybe the simplest way, if you can spend the money, is to have a custom mold made by Accurate. Pick your material (aluminum, iron, or brass), set all the dimensions to what you want for your chose alloy, and they guarantee -0, +.0015 on diameter. That'll get you your .405 to .4065 boolits that can be shot as cast (do slug your nice new bores before ordering the mold, if this is your chosen path).

Either call Accurate and talk to Tom and have him make you a custom sized mold, go to WWW.mountainmolds.com and design your own, or get a nominal .412" size mold and size it down. Seems those are your choices of which I am aware.

Accurate or LBT. my classic British rifles do very well with LBT designs

Any of the .410 rifle moulds in your desired weight range should work. That's not to much to downsize to./beagle
