Gents - I'm working with a newly acquired Ruger 44 Spl and I already have a Lyman 429215 mould, but was wondering, has anyone worked with the 42798 mould and the 44 Spl. Just shooting at paper, not higher velocity hunting loads. I'm figuring a little less lead and no gas check brings the cost down just a tad, but also less time used applying a gc. If the accuracy is not there with the 42798, then no sense wasting the time to even acquire a mould. Anyone with favorable results? - Thanks to all - Bill in MA

I bought a 427098 DC mold to have plain base mold for the Maggie.
I never have cast the first boolit out of it since I got the Lee 200 grain mold and with 6 cavities it spits them out handily. It is 200 grain RNFP plain based boolit and does well for me

I think you will like that mold and it is even 5 grains lighter.

I think you'll find that most 427098s/424098s and 429098s will cast too small for use in the .44 Special. I've owned four of them over the years and that's been my experiences with them.

If you find one that casts large enough, it should shoot pretty well./beagle

Beagle's comments mirror my experience with this design. I much prefer the Saeco 446-A or even the Lee 200RNFP to the Lyman 42x098 series.

Thanks - My concerns with that mould, were that it would be undersized. I posted here a while back and got good feedback on the Lee mould, so I may go that route. I'm just more used to using the Lyman steel moulds and have never used a Lee 6 cavity and many years since I used the SC or DC lee moulds - Thanks Bill

They fit some .44 Wcf. but too small for the other .44s, I know because I tried them in 2 diff. SBHs.
